SMBC is seeking an Analyst for Leveraged and Acquisition Finance Group (LAFG). This role will support the Leveraged and Acquisition Finance Group team in the underwriting, marketing, and execution of transactions for non-investment grade and cross-over rated corporate and private equity sponsor marketing units. In addition, this role will support other LAFG, Loan Capital and High Yield Capital Markets team initiatives.

Responsibilities for this role include input to marketing and syndication materials, underwriting memos, institutional loan and high yield bond markets updates, maintenance of the comps database, regular update of credentials, and drafting presentations.


  • Assist senior members of the team and marketing officers with input for pitches and underwriting memos such as market updates and appropriate comps
  • Responsible for first draft of materials and processing for internal approvals
  • Prepare presentation materials such as pitches, Confidential Information Memorandums and rating agency, lender, and investor presentations
  • Support the execution of underwritten and best efforts loan and bond transactions including preparing syndication updates, salesforce materials, maintaining datasites, and other administrative tasks key to the execution and closing of syndicated loans and/or bonds
  • Develop collaborative relationships with the credit and client coverage teams and other product groups during the pitching, structuring, and primary syndication process to ensure flawless execution of mandated transactions
  • Maintain and provide regular input to Comparables Database (database of comparable transactions and market trends) and League Tables, ensure database is current and accurate and all new deals are reflected, review and provide feedback to team on a weekly basis and produce comparables sheet for all required meetings
  • Ensure that all activity is up-to-date in the group's weekly pipeline and inventory report and other underwriting and management reports
  • Provide ad hoc reports for management and support internal group and firmwide projects and initiatives


  • 0-2 years of elevant experience, BA/BS degree
  • Prior experience in leveraged finance at an investment or corporate bank is preferred
  • Intellectually curious about the transactions with aptitude to determine the credit risks and strengths of comparable transactions
  • Highly proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint and ability to maintain, manipulate, and improve the comps database
  • Strong work ethic and high degree of attention to detail with an ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against strict deadlines
  • Highly collaborative and flexible in a team and client environment and ability to build and matain relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to pro-actively share information to coordinate and communicate effectively with various internal departments across the bank
  • Excellent writing skills to clearly articulate information in pitch materials and underwriting memos and strong communication skills are essential for the role
  • Self-driven and motivated; takes personal ownership of specific assignments
