The Chief of Staff (CoS) will be a strategic operational leader with end to end responsibility for the business and administrative operations of the Finance function. The CoS will advise the Chief Financial Officer and Finance Leadership Team (FLT), serving as a trusted thought partner on major strategic considerations, coordinating and executing strategy, improving the teams capabilities and performance, and delivering on special project assignments. She/he will also be responsible for partnering to manage Finances brand with key internal and external constituents (e.g., Providence Board and Sponsors, Providence Executive Leadership Council, Finance organization, etc.). In addition, the CoS will help deliver a highly sustained and engaged finance team, manage the budget, create leadership communications, and serve as a change agent and problem solver. The CoS must establish and maintain effective working relationships with leadership, caregivers, and vendors across the enterprise to foster success of our people strategies.

The successful candidate is a resourceful individual with strong emotional intelligence, self-motivation, and analytical skills, focused on the success of the team and organization. The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes PSJH mission, values, and philosophy. In all aspects, he/she serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization.


The Chief of Staff will:

  • Serve as an advisor and thought partner to the Chief Financial Officer and Finance leadership team; partner to develop, articulate, and deliver an inspiring vision and future design for Finance
  • Participate in and facilitate the senior leadership team for Finance
  • Improve the functions effectiveness by developing processes and forums that enable better execution, rhythm of the business, change management and communication, and effective meeting/process management
  • Establish regular strategy and operating reviews for Financial teams
  • Ensure effective budget management
  • Think strategically to solve complex problems, drive decision making and accountability, and ensure aligned commitment in a highly matrixed and complex organization, helping the team get to the best possible solution effectively and efficiently
  • Oversee critical strategic priorities and initiatives, ensuring an integrated approach within Finance and with key partners across the organization; proactively identify, resolve, and elevate issues that may impact the successful execution of key strategies and initiatives
  • Collaborate with Finance leadership team to drive exceptional financial stewardship for Providence, steering resources to their highest and best use on behalf of the Mission through broad engagement, recognition, and regular cadence of leadership communication with key constituents
  • Attend meetings with or on behalf of the EVP in order to extend reach across the organization and with external audiences. Prepare and facilitate for EVP led meetings: accountable for ensuring that the meeting objectives are defined and achievable, team member preparation is appropriate, and leadership is well-prepared to meet with internal or external stakeholders.
  • Lead through influence, working with team members across the organization.
  • Serve as the advocate and change agent where current processes do not support our needs
  • Lead Board Prep for Finance Committee, Rating Agency, key conferences and other key Committees as appropriate
  • Lead special projects as assigned



  • Masters degree from a recognized college or university in Strategy, Business, Finance or Healthcare Administration or a closely relate field preferred
  • Seven (7) years of business management experience with strong strategy and operational background performing or managing complex projects to include experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Proven track record of success at achieving big outcomes on broad-reaching, complex projects.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization, changing the way people think, feel or act, including the C-Suite.
  • Servant leader mindset, intent on enabling the success of those around them.
  • Mission-driven mentality, with a values based leadership style, committed to improving health, lowering the cost of care, and building an exceptional experience for caregivers.
  • Ability to cultivate and lead high-performing, highly engaged teams who report directly and indirectly.
  • Adept at building relationships and collaborating with others to achieve success.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, speaking, ppt story telling; effective, active listener.

  • Demonstrated success in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to think strategically and handle complex situations; ability to simplify complex concepts for clarity, decision making, and ease of action.
